18twelve:

A family were on holiday in Australia for a week and a half when husband, wife and their 15 year old son decided to go scuba diving. The husband is in the navy and has had some scuba experience. His son wanted a picture of his mum and dad in all their gear so he got the under water camera ready to go. When it came to taking the picture the dad realized that the son looked like he was panicking as he took it and gave the ‘OK’ hand sign to see if he was all right.
The son took the picture and swam to the surface and back to the boat as quick as he could so the mum and dad followed to see if he was OK. When they got back to him, he was scrambling onto the boat and absolutely panicking. When the parents asked why, he said ‘there was a shark behind you.’ The dad thought he was joking but the skipper of the boat said it was true but they wouldn’t believe him.
As soon as they got back to their hotel they loaded the picture onto their laptop and that was what they saw.

ho-ly shit.

Biggest photo bomb ever. That is so fucking scary.

Course in Review

Block VI has been busy. not because we do a lot in class, (most of the class work is done before lunch) but because block VI is when you do all of the out processing paperwork, so to make up for the sever lack of posts. here is our graduation video that has a review of everything we’ve done since day 1.

LMFAO Cover of the Day: After months of rearranging, 18-year-old Noah finally figured out how best to cover LMFAO’s “Sexy & I Know It” — and his rendition has just been named the day’s trending video by NBC’s Today show. You can almost see him blushing as he shares his big news with fans on Facebook and Twitter. Pretty obvious what’s going on here — Noah’s sexy and he doesn’t know it.

Days 45-57

BLOCK: I-II-III-IV-V-VI

yes, I realize its been…a while. but there is good reason.

hazmat.

There is nothing I can possibly say about hazmat that would be even REMOTELY entertaining. but to outline, we covered Hazmat awareness (signs and placards) then Hazmat operations (decon and evacuation)

7 days…

7 days, of straight lecture. I’ve never fought so hard in my life to stay awake for lecture then I did those 7 days.

Then if that wasn’t enough. The first 4 days of Block 6 were lecture.

Hence, nothing.to.blog. 11 days of lecture.

But, on that note, I am Block 6 now, which means I’m a certified HazMat operator, and now on my way to earning the coveted Crash/Fire Rescue Fire Fighter.

Only Air Rescue Fire Fighter left. And starting tomorrow we go back outside again!

So to appease for now, some old photos reworked to look pretty

Day 43-44

BLOCK: I-II-III-IV-V-VI

2 really big fires!

First we had Cylinder fires

The basic concept is to cool the cylinder until the relief valve shuts off, then move in so you can physically turn off the gas flow into the tank. which means yes. you have to stand next to, and grab the flaming gas tank/bomb.

(this would be an example of too hot still…)

after this we did dumpster fires…nothing at all worth mentioned here..I didn’t even bother taking photos…and it was especially pale in comparison to…

interior fires!

exactly what it sounds/looks like. fighting a fire…inside. Ground level (IE 1st floor) above grade (fire is upstairs) and below grade (fire is downstairs)

you just..go inside and put it out…but its much much hotter (being confined) and you have to look in all directions since it has walls and ceilings to travel along.

and after completing our final exam today..we are now nationally certified fire fighters (IFSAT I and II) Monday we have a full scale house fire for us to apply all of our new skills before moving into hazmat…which is going to be incredibly lackluster for the next week or so (classroom again -_-)

that’s all for now

Day 41-42

BLOCK: I-II-III-IV-V-VI

FIRST BURN.

Wild land fires!

basically, we practiced digging firebreaks, they laid out dry hay. torched it, and we made fire breaks, and let it burn itself out…not too exciting…but its a start…

yup, there it is.

Then today…vehicle fires!

I think it’s pretty self explanatory…

Tomorrow are Class A/Cylinder Fires

not much else to write home about…

38-40

BLOCK: I-II-III-IV-V-VI

Hose advancements, Ladder Operations and Automatic Sprinklers.

Hose advancements was just as I expected it to be based on last weeks description. lot of running up and down stairs with charge and uncharged hose lines. Nothing very exciting, just repetition.

getting ready for hose advancments

then we did hose Operations from a ladder.

yup. just like is sounds…and there it is..a hose..on a ladder. amazing.

Then the highlight of this week, Automatic Sprinklers. We basically just have to off the water spray

Those little suckers put out a lot more water then one would expect…

a lot of water…we got a little wet…

some more then others…

Monday is our lecture over Fire control followed by….our FIRST BURN! oh yes. the fun has finally arrived. next week we have Wildland fires, cylinder fires, vehicle fires, above/below grade fires and interior fires…in just 5 days!

expect more pictures then text. and of course videos!
